Excuse me, but didn’t we fight a revolution so we wouldn’t have to put up with folderol like this? Didn’t we erect all those imposing white marble buildings in Washington, DC to intentionally intimidate nations into taking us seriously? Don’t we go out of our way to address the head of our government as “Mr. President” instead of “Your Excellency,” illustrating we are just as worthy as he is? Just as we don’t bow or curtsey to any foreign potentate as coming from a nation of equals, we are so above such a thing. Which prompts me to ask this question: how could so many people get up at 4:00 AM to goggle at this massive display of royal conspicuous excess?
